Immigration to Japan: Work Visa

There are three main types of visas for immigrating to Japan through work visas, namely highly qualified personnel visas, employment visas, and specific skills visas derived from employment visas. Among the three types of visas, the easiest one to transfer to permanent residence was launched in 2012Highly Skilled Professional Visa. The Highly Talented Visa adopts a points system. The most basic requirements are that senior talents engaged in professional technology (science and humanities), academic research or business management must also be employed in a Japanese position with an annual income of 3 million yen (approximately HK$212,000). It’s about HK$17,000 per month, which is not a high threshold. However, there are many details in the score sheet. If you want to reach the threshold of the Highly Talented Visa, you must pay attention to the score sheet provided by the Japanese official and calculate it yourself first.

Basic Requirements for Highly Talented Visa

  1. Engaged in professional technology (science and humanities), academic research, business management
  2. Get 70 points in the score sheet (scored based on academic qualifications, work experience, research qualifications, and Japanese level)
  3. Annual income reaches 3 million yen (approximately HK$212,000)

Advantages of Highly Talented Visa

  1. Can be issued a 5-year residence visa
  2. If you get 70 points in the score sheet, you can transfer to permanent residence for 3 years
  3. If you get 80 points in the score table, you can transfer to permanent residence for 1 year
  4. Spouse and children can apply for residence in Japan for 1 year, 3 years or 5 years

In addition to the three major thresholds of annual income, graduate school, and Japanese proficiency, everyone must consider the scope of work. Academic research requires at least a doctoral degree. Therefore, most people will focus on professional skills and corporate business management, and engage in innovation, technology, Talents in the scientific research field are more likely to obtain professional and technical personnel visas. As for business management, it is easier to pass if you work for a large and well-known company.

⚠️ Those who have a score of 70 and have lived for three consecutive years can also apply for permanent residence. However, it is said that the success rate of your own application is only 60%. The reasons for not being approved include unpaid taxes, insufficient annual income, unqualified identity guarantor, etc. Therefore, it is best to find a professional ""administrative scrivener"" to do it for you!
